Macbook Pro motherboard got rusted and corroded in less than a year. What if the new one rusts within a year too?

I bought a Macbook Pro 15inch Retina in September 2016 and now in August 2017 it won't work without a charger.

I went to the service center and they said it's rusted and corroded... Which is not covered in the warranty so I have to pay almost one third of the original cost of the laptop... Within a year ! ... I've never spilled water on it ... And have always taken good care of my Mac. It's definitely not happening because of something I've done. My question is ... What if the same thing happens after I get it repaired? I can't afford to pay so much to replace the motherboard every year.

Rusting is not common. Are you using or storing your computer in a humid environment?

From the tech specs: MacBook Pro - Technical Specifications - Apple notenote the relative humidity spec.

Electrical and Operating Requirements

  • Line voltage: 100V to 240V AC
  • Frequency: 50Hz to 60Hz
  • Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
  • Storage temperature: –13° to 113° F (–25° to 45° C)
  • Relative humidity: 0% to 90% noncondensing
  • Operating altitude: tested up to 10,000 feet
  • Maximum storage altitude: 15,000 feet
  • Maximum shipping altitude: 35,000 feet

That is almost certainly the issue. Yes, I think you should stop using it there as the same thing is likely going to happen again. Unfortunately, I suspect other computer makers have similar restrictions. Make sure to check before buying. I wonder if one or more of the computers intended for extreme situations/environments would work for you?
