Cannot delete image that are on iphone with image capture

Ok so I am a little confused when I connect my iphone 6S to my macbook using image capture.

Connecting the two, in image capture i see there are 5.618 image when I select my iphone on the left plane in image capture but when I go to photos on my phone the first tile I see is called ALL PHOTOS and it has 11.152.

I wanted to select about 5.000 of the photos in image capture and delete them, but the delete option is greyed out. So I though, then I will delete them directly on the phone, but there there are over 11.000.

Why woud image capture not show the same amount of photos (11.152)?

How can I re-acivate the delete option in image capture please?

The cloud icon next to your iPhone name indicates you turned iCloud Photo Library ON. These images have already been synced to iCloud and whatever other devices or computers have iCPL enabled. I.e., the master originals are in iCloud, not on the local device for Image Capture to manipulate directly. To delete them you have to do it from the Photos app(s).

Note, that with iCPL enabled, adding, deleting, or editing images on any iCPL device, will sync that action to all other iCPL devices (including deletions!). Read this carefully and evaluate if in your r usage case you want iCPL disabled.

Hi Rysz, thanks for the reply. So that makes sense as to why I see different amount. The 11.152 is in the cloud and the 5618 is what is actually on my phone?

I actually prefer how it used to be: I have a folder on my phone with all local photos and there is a folder with icloud photos. If I disable icloud photo library will I create that situation? Will I not lose images? And will images I make still be automatically uploaded to icloud?
