When we start a new message in Mail (as the screen shot below), in the dropdown box of FROM, we can choose which outgoing mailbox we will use to send this mail out.
How to remove or delete an existing mailbox there in the dropdown box? I have one there which I have no idea where it came from, and I want to get rid of it.

The OP is using the term mail boxes in the original question that was quizzical , it should be mail address click on edit server and select the unwanted mail address and click on minus sign to get it deleted and it will not be shown , once mail is composed and in the From field it will be deleted .

In Mail preferences, select Accounts, then Server Settings tab. You can edit the list of SMTPs there.
