Keyboard and Mouse disabled after login

I have a MacBook Air. The mouse and keyboard work initially so that I can click my username, enter my password, and login. Upon successfully logging in however both become disabled.

Initially, the computer would say it is searching for a bluetooth mouse and freeze up. I have a bluetooth mouse from another computer that I ended up using. It would connect and the bluetooth mouse worked. Then I went into settings and disabled the option to search for bluetooth mouse and keyboard upon setup. Now when I login neither the mouse or keyboard works. I also cannot get my bluetooth mouse to reconnect.

Help!

If you have access to any brand USB wired keyboard & mouse for use with

troubleshooting hardware in your portable Mac, that may allow you access.

The generic USB wired keyboard/mouse peripherals from PC could do OK.

Once you could gain access, you may be able to isolate issues or see what the

log entries in console or other system log reports say. ~ See Safe Boot.

Plan to see an expert, either at an official Apple Store where they may have

a genius on staff; by appointment. If you know the store, you may be able

to just call to see if you can get one. Some use the online method solely.

An Authorized Apple Service Provider otherwise may be able to help in the

course of troubleshooting diagnostic testing and offer estimates for repair.

In any event...

Good luck & happy trails! 🙂

Update: I was able to get a USB keyboard to work. Now I can operate the macbook with a USB keyboard and Bluetooth mouse.

Here's the thing that is very weird. The factory keyboard and trackpad both work when the Macbook is first booted up so that I can login. After that neither the trackpad or keyboard will work. I then need to use a bluetooth mouse and USB keyboard.
