E353 Huawei dongle on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.5

The option for connecting to a Huawei modem does not appear in Network Preferences. I have installed the driver, which asks to connect to the net, but when attempting to connect, it says connection terminated. How to get the Huawei modem E353 option to appear in Network preferences of Mac OS Sierra 10.12.5

MacBook Air, macOS Sierra (10.12.5)

The dongle driver is installed on the system. But the network preferences has only 3 options - wireless, thunderbolt, and Bluetooth. The option for connecting to a cellular/dongle network is not appearing. Does this mean that the driver is not installed properly?

Other discussion forums mention that connecting dongle through a USB 2 port will help, since there seems to be a communication issue between the USB 3 and the dongle. Will have to try this as well.
