trim movie permanently

All,

When I shoot videos I have a lot of overhead - typically I only want to keep the best parts and get rid of 80%. Given the fact that I shoot in HD, the 80% consumes a lot of disk space.

Trimming a movie in Fotos seems to keep the original, not helping in this case.

Any other suggestion to permanently trim?

Thanks!

You can export your Movie, open it in Quicktime Player, split your clips where you want, and trim it there.

When in Quicktime Player, click on View//Show Clips. A timeline will appear. Move the playhead (the vertical red marker) to the place where you want to split and do an Edit/Split Clip. Click on Done. Then you can View/Show Clips and trim your splits, or the whole initial clip, by selecting the clip in the timeline and doing an Edit/Trim by dragging the edges of the yellow outline that appears.

You can export your trimmed clips into a finder folder and import them as a batch into Photos or anywhere else that you want.

Hope this helps.

With Download QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later you can cut out sections of a video file, join clips together, rotate videos and more.

Note 1: It's been a long time since I started using QTP7 and don't remember if you need Quicktime Pro (available at the Apple Store) or not. You can download the app from the link above and try it out.

Note 2: QTP7 is only 32 bit and will not be compatible with the system that follows High Sierra which will require 64 bit. Currently we don't know if that app will be upgraded to 64 bit so you may want to put off buying QT Pro (if needed) as it will only have a limited time of compatibility.
