siri stopped auto reading text messages on bluetooth headset

iPhone 5s with version 10.3.3

when I am using my Bluetooth headset and I use siri to send a text message, siri displays the message for confirmation on the screen but does not auto read it back to me.

this just started 2 days ago and previously would auto read the text message for confirmation prior to sending.

I performed a factory default and restored the backup and still the same issue.

deleted and re-paired headset.

any thoughts?

Hello biwwy,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to have Siri read back a message before sending when using the "Hey Siri" with your Bluetooth headset. Since you have tried some troubleshooting already, please use iTunes on your Mac or PC to backup and restore your iOS software to factory settings, as this process erases the information and settings on your device and installs a fresh copy of the latest iOS software. Temporarily setup your phone as new to test your issues, and then restore your backup and test the issues again.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to factory settings
Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup
Get help with Siri on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!

hello becky

thank you for your reply.

I have performed your suggested course of action.

I restored the iPhone using iTunes.

I set it up as a new phone.

and the problem still persists.

you are not quite correct in your description of the issue.

let me explain:

I am not using 'hey siri'

I am connected to the iPhone with a Bluetooth headset.

I am activating siri by pressing and holding the home key

siri asks me what I want to do and I hear that over the headset.

I say 'text bob'

siri says 'what do I want to say to bob'

I say 'hello bob'

siri then shows the text display 'hello bob' on the screen but does not repeat it audibly.

siri asks 'are you ready to send'

if I say 'read', siri will then read 'hello bob' to me.

if I say 'send', siri will send it.

so if I turn on hey siri

and I say 'hey siri, text bob'

siri will ask 'what do you want to say to bob'

I say ' hello bob'

siri will then audibly say 'you message is, hello bob, do you want to send'

prior to 1 week ago, when I pressed the home key to activate siri, an audible recite of the message would automatically happen without having to ask siri to read the message, just like if I use hey siri.

I would love to get this feature back....

did I turn something off?

is this a function change with the software?

is this an issue?

thank you

bill

I don't think it's limited to whether or not a headset is being used. Instead this appears to be something that has simply changed with Siri. In the past, there would be a "confirmation" where the message and to whom it was being sent would be spoken by Siri. Now, it only appears on the screen and ONLY asks "Ready to send it" without actually speaking the message and to whom it is going. This is a big issue if the transcription is a bit off and the message is being sent where the screen can't be observed (typical fully hands-free operation)

I have them same issue/frustration. It seems like someone made the call to change how Siri functions. I used to get so much done during my commute by dictating messages and responses to messages through Siri and having them read back to me automatically before determining whether to edit, send or cancel. How do we give feedback to Apple that will be heard that this was a change for the worse?

I am having the same problem - has anyone come up with a solution yet?

This is a major productivity killer for me. I know, it's just one extra step of "read it to me" before sending, but it's so frustrating!

Edit: Not to mention, asking someone to visually identify whether a text was transcribed correctly while driving seems totally counterintuitive from a safety perspective! Seems like a huge oversight on Apple's part.
