What is "other" in Macbook Air storage?

What is "other" in Macbook Air storage? It takes up 50% of the storage and i need to manage or reduce it.

When you look at the storage bar there are specific categories enumerated: Movies, Apps, Audio,etc. Other is simply everything else - mostly but not limited to your documents. "Other" is an unfortunate title and the confusion is further exacerbated by a Spotlight bug mislabels files as "Other" when they really belong to another category.


As for managing "Other" you don't. What you can control are the number of applications you've installed and what is stored in your personal drive space - your documents, music, movies, etc.
