music player replaces photo on lock screen

iPhone 7. iOS 10.3.3

My lock screen photo is frequently replaced by the black screen music player. I do not play music, use headphones, visit websites for video or audio. It usually happens when my battery is between 90-100% and if I don't notice it right away [overnight] I'll awaken to a 35% batter level. I can temporarily get it off lock screen by a reboot. I eliminated all my ringtone apps, and that didn't help. But when I got rid of the iTunes app, it went away for a few weeks. Now it is back.

I am getting very frustrated as it is potentially damaging my battery and is a real pain!

Thanks,

That is a weird issue.

First of all, you should check battery stats for unusually high power consumption. See Settings → Battery. If there is an app that consumes a lot of power (although you don’t use the app that much), you can disable background refresh (Settings → General → Background App Refresh), which will prevent the app from running processes in the background.
