iPhone 6s dead and won't charge

I've had my iPhone 6s for a while, and has always charged fine until tonight when I have plugged it in to charge, it was dead but only for an hour or so, and now has been on charge for over an hour and is still coming up with the battery charging icon when the phone is dead. Occasionally, the phone goes completely unresponsive, and then tells me that the phone is dead and charging again.

Anything I can try to fix it?

iPhone 6s, iOS 10.3.3

I've tried those, and they seem to get it to charge and switch on, but this is constantly happening. If possible, I'd rather not take it to be repaired, as I'll be upgrading my phone in about a month anyway, so this would seem a waste of money to me. Is there any other solutions I could try?
