My 12" MacBook won't shut down

Ok, I don't use my MacBook as much anymore because I use my iPad Pro more nowadays. Booted up my 12" MacBook (2015) this morning to install updates, and now I CANNOT shut it down like before. I've tried "nvram AutoBoot=%00" and it doesn't work for me. I tried unplugging from power and that's the only time it shuts down, but I needed to charge the laptop since it needed to be charged.

I don't understand why have a "Shut Down" button when the OS won't even shut the heck down! Save power, and just let me charge the darn thing. Bad design Apple! Bad design!

MacBook, macOS Sierra (10.12.6), 2015 12" MacBook

That's not by design. Your computer should shut down when you select the Apple menu > Shut Down. If it isn't, there is a process running that is preventing it from shutting down.

If you are still experiencing this issue after getting it to power off by unplugging it, try an SMC reset: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

If that doesn't help, set up a new user account and try shutting down from there. If it works, there's corrupt data or something that is stopping the shutdown (which is not the computers fault).
