Do I need an adaptor with an audio jack for my docking station to work. I just have old connection to lightening

Thanks for your answer.I have a 30 pin adaptor to lightening, but it doesn't work to play music. It charges the phone on the docking station, but won't play music. Do you think I might the connector with the audio jack?

I don't know of an audio jack to 30 pin adapter. If your dock has and aux in port you can just buy a 3.5 to 3.5 cable.
