FCPX Text bug? Exported project 3x to same glitch.

Hey there,

I've been having an issue where a basic title text just removes sections of text upon export. It still shows in my project that all the text is there, but the final export doesn't show it all (see picture). There is a weird way to reveal the issue inside of the project, though. If I copy + paste the title on the timeline it shows the text post-glitch despite having not deleting any text.

This has been happening for a while, to get around it I just keep fiddling with it and retyping / recreating titles from scratch and exporting over and over again until it works. It's incredibly inconvenient and annoying. Anyone else experience this and can help fix it?

I'm in the latest version of Final Cut Pro X as of August 29th, 2017. Which is version 10.3.4.
I'm also on the latest version of Mac OS Sierra. Version 10.12.6

Start by deleting preferences: hold down command and option keys while starting FCP X and click "Delete Preferences". Then reopen your library and see if the problem was fixed.

You may also try creating a new project, add a few titles and see if the problem also occurs.

That begs the question: what is common to all those 9 machines? The behavior you describe is not normal. It may seem to you that this a generalized issue but it isn't. Those macs probably have similar installs and the same software issue manifests in all of them.

I recommend you run the diagnostic tool Etrecheck and post its report here. This is so we can have a chance at spotting potential causes.

I've been waiting for a fix to this exact same issue, thank you for posting!

This issue has been going on for months and months (it started earlier this year). Is there any news of a fix yet? I had to switch over to another editing program for many of my videos because they involve a lot of text (for captions/notes) and this bug was wasting a lot of time (re-writing everything, exporting, watching the video to see which text had glitches, fixing the glitchy text, re-saving, viewing the video over). It would be nice to switch back to FCPX again.

Bug Info:

- Copying a title to create a new title with the same formatting causes the new title to revert back to the previous title's text.
- Cutting a title that has been copied from a previous title causes half of the title to remain correct, and the other half to revert back to the previous title's text (the cuts are being made because each title has starting animation applied to it, and ending animation, so I cut them in the middle so that I can easily adjust when the text clip it starts and when it ends)

- Even if a title appears to be correct, you can close FCPX, and when you reopen it, the titles are all messed up (half of the new text remains, the text has reverted back to the old text, or only a couple words/letters remain in the title).

- Even if a title appears to be correct, you can export the file, and when you view the final export, the titles are all messed up (half of the new text remains, the text has reverted back to the old text, or only a couple words/letters remain in the title).

How can I share a video screen recording of this bug happening?

Start Quicktime Player, choose File->New Screen Recording, do what you want to show, click the Stop little icon that appears in the menu bar to stop the recording.

Trim the obvious start and end that are uninteresting to the problem, save the file and upload to a web video service like youtube. Post the link here.

As I said back in August: this is not an error that is common, so it is likely related to something specific to the affected machines, or specific titles used. When posting, please also describe your system (mac model, OS version, FCP X version, etc).

I believe only very senior users are allowed to post videos that way. Just like you, I can't.

What I have done a few times is what I said before: I upload the video to youtube and post the link here.

And no, I don't work "for FCPX", and I don't work for Apple. I am a mac user like yourself, and so are most of the people that post here.

Apart from a group of forum moderators, Apple doesn't actively participate in these forums, AFAICT.
