Retina advertises superior display, but has LED spillover resulting in discoloured edges???

Does any one else feel ripped off about having bought a retina (a superior display that's supposed to put other displays to shame), only to find that when you turn up the brightness you will find certain parts of the screen (mostly the edges) pale and discoloured? Apple support has assured me that every Retina model has this issue to some degree, but how does that fit in with its supposed positioning as a superior and leading display that should ideally not allow for patchiness? Anybody else face the same problem? Try it out by turning up your brightness while looking at a black screen (maybe the beginning of a movie) and turning down the lights. Let us know the outcome please!

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

No, not having this problem. Did you talk to Apple on the phone? Or did you take it into a store and actually have someone look at it? I recommend doing the later if you haven't already.

Mine is a 2013 retina and I discovered this problem, so I got in touch with Apple and they replaced the display for free, but the issue still persists, and they now say they can't do anything about it.

Here's how to find out if you face the problem

1. Open a blank black image on your screen. It has to be fully black, try downloading one from google. A black screen is where its most evident so this step is very important.

2. Turn up your brightness all the way.

3. Turn off the lights (and make sure you are in a dark room)

Let us know the outcome please!

This reminds me of the story of the little old spinster who called the police because her neighbor was exposing himself to her from his house. The police came to her house and asked for details. She told them that to see the neighbor they would have to move the kitchen table over to her window, then they would have to place a chair on the table, then get up and stand on the chair, then with a pair of binoculars look into the neighbor's bedroom window. 😁

I suggest you take the computer to an authorized service center and have them duplicate your unique viewing environment to show then what is occurring.

Hi BobTheFisherman,

Too much lead or mercury in your diet? Your parable makes no sense. 😝

What's so unique about a dark room? Would you like me to explain how to replicate a dark room environment?

And I thought I already explained that the display was changed by the service centre, which essentially means I visited a service centre? Would you like me to repeat that again?

"Would you like me to explain how to replicate a dark room environment?"

No, do as I suggested. Take it to and authorized service provider and have them replicate your viewing environment so that they can see what your issue is. I know you said you already visited the service center. What else do you expect from we users? We can not troubleshoot your problem. Your issue as described is not a systemic problem.

The story was an attempt to inject a little humor, sorry you were not able to understand the similarity in the story or the humor. 😕
