Apple Certified Pre-Owned

Hello,

I am just planning to buy my first iPhone as i am used to with android phones. Is it good enough to buy those Apple Certified Pre-Owned devices? And i do have two year warranty on my product from the seller is it worth it?

I am less suspicious seeing the Carrefour name. You realise that it will in all likelihood be unable to use Facebook as it is banned in the UAE.

And you need to know the precise terms of the guarantee including the exclusions.

As far as the discounts are concerned, what are they discounting from? And have you asked about refurbished iPhones here.

To my knowledge, there is no such thing as any third party “Apple certified pre-owned” or refurbished device. Apple itself sells its own OEM refurbished devices (which do come with a one year warranty and are eligible for extended warranty). But I have never known them to “certify” anyone else’s refurbished or used devices.

I strongly suspect you are buying nothing more than a used device. If it is more than a year old, it will not have an Apple warranty, and I highly doubt any of those used iphones will be eligible for any extended warranties.

Refurbished or used devices from third parties like Amazon and other sellers have nothing to do with Apple. They are just used phones. Apple does not certify or qualify them at all. They have never done so.

I should also add that the box may not actually reflect what is in the box. Check at https://locate.apple.com/ to see if that particular store is listed as an Apple Authorized Reseller. Even if they are, try to check whether Apple actually allows resellers in your country access to their OEM refurbished products. In the USA, they do not do so - here, only Apple online actually sells Apple OEM refurbished products. In the USA anyone but Apple claiming to be selling Apple OEM refurbished products is lying (at the very best, all they may be selling is someone's old/used refurbished device).

If the seller is not an Apple Authorized reseller, then they are either using Apple refurbished product boxes to repackage their used devices in, counterfeit Apple product boxes, are selling peoples refurbished products they've bought from them in the original packaging it shipped in (in which case again, it is just another used iPhone), or they are selling outright stolen Apple refurbished devices.

I don't know that I have ever seen it on the phone but I've not had the opportunity to check an Apple OEM refurbished iPhone that thoroughly.

Apple refurbished phones from the Apple online refurbished store ship in boxes labeled as the OP posted in their picture. But, to my knowledge, the only legitimate and official source of those devices in such boxes is directly from Apple itself.

Ultimately, it depends on the source of the device. If it is from a legitimate Apple Authorized re-seller who is allowed, by Apple, access to Apple OEM refurbished devices, then it should be fine. However, I know of no such Authorized re-seller. Authorized re-sellers, at least in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, do not have access to Apple OEM refurbished devices.

There are plenty of unauthorized resellers selling refurb's they purchase from owners, but at that point its just another used iphone. There are also plenty of black and gray market sellers out there.

So those could have been actual Apple OEM refurbished devices, at one point. But unless that seller is authorized by Apple and granted access to OEM refurbished inventory, then they are just selling used iPhones.

Lots of companies also sell "certified" and "refurbished" iPhones - Walmart, BestBuy, Amazon, etc. But those are not certified nor refurbished by Apple. Those companies have their own certification or refurbishment programs, and any warranty on those devices is from them or their contractor, not Apple. The shady ones have been known to put them in Apple packaging though (not saying the three sellers I mentioned do that, but others reportedly have).
