Do I have a bot virus in my Mac

Recently I have this paranoid idea that I might have a bot virus. I would like to know if Macs can be infected with a bot virus, how can you tell if you have one and how you can remove it.

I thank everyone additionally for your help

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Open safari and its preferences > in downloads section set ask for each download so that if you are downloading it will ask admin permission , if you allow by entering admin name and password it will start downloading otherwise it won't .

If, AND ONLY IF, you get the error:

"The message contains invalid characters"

then try posting to PasteBin.com, and give us a PasteBin URL link.
