Difficulty clicking on MacBook Air trackpad

I am having difficulty with the trackpad on my 2011 MacBook Air. I have to click on the trackpad several times (with increasing pressure) in order to get it to respond. What can I do to get it to be more responsive to the touch?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2011), macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

You may want to have it looked at at the genius bar of your local Apple Store. I've seen this several times and it usually turns out to be one of 2 things. Either dirt preventing it from operating properly, or a battery that has begun to swell and is pressing on the underside of the trackpad.
