Making Custom Sized Poster

Hi all.

This doesn't really fit here but I'm sure someone will have a good idea...

Anyway, I want to make a custom sized poster (20X30). I downloaded posterino and it works great, actuall exactly what I want, but I'm poor and really don't have the $20 right now. But isn't there a way to create a custom sized image in photoshop or something? What I want is a 20X30 poster with three images placed horizontal.

Not sure what the best (and free) to do this is.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Joshua:

Photoshop can do that very easily. Just create a new canvas, 20 x 30 at the dpi setting that your other images are. Then open each image, drag to the canvas and position. For an inexpensive print you might try Kinkos. I had an 11 x 17 done there for abut $3 on their large color laser printer. Not the best quality but OK for the intended use. I plan to have them print up this poster that I just finished using OmniGraffle which came with my G5. It was a lot easier than trying to use Photoshop as moving and placing the photos was much, much easier.
User uploaded file Do you Twango?

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

That really is a cool looking poster, I like how some images are sized differently, it adds to the poster.

The biggest thing that I need in this poster is to be able to create this doc or canvas, but have it automatically create three same sized sections, then I can just drag-and-drop my three images into and know that all will be identically sized to each other.

Does that make sense?

I don't know how you can do it automatically. The three sections can be identified with positioned guides but placing the individual images in each section and sizing to the section seem like it will have to be manual.

It might be able to be done with a PS action. I don't know enough about them except to use those have have already been created.

I have a picture in iphoto 6 that is 1536x2048 pixels. I want to make order a 16x20 poster of it. When I put it in to order, it gives the infamous yelow exclamation point. I have photoshop 7.0. I tried to make a template 16x20 with 300 resolutions. When I try to drag my picture onto the template, it will not let me drop it. Any suggestions anyone?

2048/20 = 102 dpi. That's why you got the resolution warning. You can try upping the resolution of that picture as follows:

1 - crop to the 16 x 20 size ratio
1 - In Photoshop's Image->Image Size menu window change the width to 20"
2 - change the dpi to 300.

Have the following boxes checked:

Scale Styles
Constrain Proportions
Resample Image: Bicubic Smoother (best for enlargements)

That should give you 6000 x 4800 pixels.

Regarding dragging into the template: make sure the canvas is in the RGB color mode and the same resolution as your picture, if you use the picture in it's original resolution.
