Does disliking a story on the News app actually do anything?

The News app gives you the option of "disliking" or "loving" news stories, but it's unclear of what this actually does. It doesn't seem to decrease the types of stories I dislike or decrease the traffic from the news site I disliked the story from. There's no like or dislike bar like on YouTube so it's not a community rating system. Does anyone know if there is a point to disliking a story?

(I know you can mute news sources by disliking them but this question is specifically for disliking news stories not sources).
