I am the only user on my mac, and only user account setup, but yet when I have to make changes it asks for administrator username and password and my username does not work for this. How do I go about fixing this problem. I am currently using MacOS Sierra version 10.12.4.

The user and groups show that I'm the only user and I'm on standard not admin.
I just bought this Mac today and I was a admin when I started, I turned it off then next time I opened im no longer admin. Kinda disappointed, really wanted to change my energy saver options. I tried to go to the self booting thing (control + s) I typed "applesetupdone" and it said permission not granted.
Once you do the below and are logged in as the new admin, go to System Preferences/Users & Groups and change your normal account to admin.
What does the setting in System Preferences –> Users & Groups show?
only user, but it says i'm not the admin
