The following steps may help:

Check and, if desired, adjust your Home Button click setting:

• Go to: Settings > Home Button - select your preferred click from the three options, which vary in haptic feedback intensity and volume.

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone to the latest software, starting by making a backup:

• Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Restart your iPhone (normally):

• Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
• (Note that Apple advises that you should not force restart your iPhone unless it is unresponsive and cannot be restarted normally).

If the issue persists and you are concerned about a hardware defect, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider to arrange for your iPhone to be checked and, if required, serviced:

There was a post on this forum of a person claiming that in his phone loud clicking was a hardware problem which made the phone less water resistant. It may be worth to investigate that through appropriate service provider.

Reset the iPhone by holding the volume-down and sleep/wake buttons together for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
