Problem using DVI with an Envision G19LWk 19" widescreen

Hi gang,
I just bought an Envision G19LWk 19" widescreen LCD yesterday. I have both a miniDVI>VGA dongle and a miniDVI/DVI dongle. When using the miniDVI>VGA>G19LWk everything appears to work fine at several resolutions including the native 1440x900. When using the miniDVI>DVI>G19LWk, the monitor says "no signal" and does not work, however, the MacBook happily plays along as if the display were functioning properly. The displays control panel identifies the monitor correctly by model and allows the correct resolution/frequency settings. The display itself remains dark and has 'no signal." While the display is in this state, there is no access to the OSD settings to make any changes or check info. I have tried both the supplied single-link DVI cable as well as a dual-link cable.

Any clues would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Actually this is one of those few cases where I don't have another monitor or computer to test this with. I can't tell if it's the computer, the dongle, or the monitor. I'll probably bring my setup to the local Apple store and see if they'll let me hook it up to one of theirs via DVI. At least that would let me know if the setup works with a different monitor...

Any other clues?
