A file appeared on my desktop, a few days ago with WirelessDiagnostic in the title and it is a .tar file. I don't remember downloading it. I am not having Wifi problems. Is this a legitimate file? The Wireless diagnostics documentation has finally been updated to make it clear that file is useless to mere mortals. If you have one (or more than one) feel free to delete them.
The report is a compressed file with a name that begins “WirelessDiagnostics.” It contains many files that describe your wireless environment in detail. A network specialist can examine them for further analysis.

Wireless Diagnostics will create a .tar file on your Desktop, so I don't think you need to worry about it. It wasn't downloaded. You can safely delete it, or double-click to see the diagnostics report. It's not something that initiates itself, so it may have a user mistake.
macjack, thank you very much! These days, I become concerned when files show up on my computer without my expecting them because I remember authorizing that. You understand my concern. 🙂
