Simple Way To Import REX2 Files

Hi.

I import rex files by clicking on edit in the exs24 and going to instrument>recycle convert>extrack MIDI region and make new instrument.

When it does this it makes a midi file and also creates a new instrument in the middle of my file directory in my sampler instruments. Is there a way to control where the rex file is saved to the sampler instruments folder and is there an easier way to import rex files?

Thanks.....

Before you import any REX files into the EXS, go to the edit menu, and hit "New".

Then hit "Save As". This will open a navigation box, where you can name and choose where this new EXS REX instrument will go.

Then, instead of selecting >Extract region and make new instrument from the Recycle Convert menu, select >Extract region and add to current instrument.

This is because it is now a valid instrument, from hitting "New", and "Save as" first, before importing the REX files.

As far as it being easier, I personally think it's pretty darn easy now. What were you hoping would be easier about it?

In 7.2.3 you can also just drag them into the loop browser or directly onto a track from the finder.

You can also do a batch conversion of REX to Apple Loops. It's in the "What's new in 7.2" PDF:

To convert multiple ReCycle files into Apple Loops:
1 Select the desired ReCycle files in the Project Manager.
2 Choose Functions > Convert selected REX files to Apple Loops.
3 In the ensuing file selector box, select a location for the converted files.
The ReCycle files are converted to Apple Loops (the slice points are converted to transient positions) and copied to the chosen location.

They won't have the metadata so they won't appear in a search until you manually add the information about what kind of loops they are using the Apple Loops Utility.

You don't have the flexibility of importing them to the EXS because there won't be a midi file, but they will work, and work quickly this way.

IMHO, Stylus RMX is the way to go for dealing with REX files. Yes, you'll have to spend a little extra money, but that program is just fantastic for this purpose (not to mention the stock grooves, as well as the EXP expanders). It allows you to import your REX files, and then drag and drop a MIDI file into Logic from the plug in. VERY easy.

Battery 3 would be almost as good; it allows you to create a MIDI file, but you can't drag and drop into the arrange window.

Sup all,

I think this is another clever way it's possible.

Make an alias and/or Copy your .REX Lib into the Sampler Intruments Folder.
If Logic and an instance of the EXS24 are open; go to the Menu within EXS24 and "Refresh menu".

Once you load the .rex file from the library in the EXS24 for the first time it will import the MIDI map associated with that .rex file; that create a new EXS24 file automatically. Next time you use that instrument and want to use the MIDI map,
you must use the Extract MIDI region(s) from Recycle instrument under the options menu in EXS24. unfortunatly there are no key command for that last function.
