I had Macbook Pro problems and my laptop had to be wiped clean. Everything was backed up by Time Machine on a separate hard drive. I am now unable to re-install iPhoto as It appears to no longer exists. How can I get all my photos back from my hard drive?

I did have the latest OS Sierra version until my laptop was wiped clean. Then it reverted to is original default (mid 2010). I've managed to update it again as far as 10.10.5.
Until the wipe clean, everything was working OK with "Photos". My back up hard drive where everything was saved before the big clean-up shows the iphoto icon with no access to it. So it looks like when it backed-up all my photos went into iPhoto rather than photo. No idea what version of iPhoto it was - probably from 2010?
Just been trying to work it all out. I had photos and iPhotos when I was running on Sierra, and I was using iPhoto in preference to photo. iPhoto was running fine on Sierra. Now I can't reinstall the iPhoto app and I'm stuck with no access to all my photographs.

Then you were using Photos? So, upgrade your machine to Sierra again and Photos will come with that. iPhoto from 2010 won't run on Sierra and won't open a Photos library.
So... run Sierra and use Photos. iPhoto is no longer developed or sold. It's the past, Photos is the future. One of these days some change in the OS will occur and the app won't launch.
