If the Call is to a non Facetime user it will use your iPhone's minutes to place it yes. It's basically just making a cell call on your iPhone.
Follow up question so I can clarify. If I use my iMac to do a FaceTime audio call with a non-FaceTime user, will that use minutes? When I call, FaceTime says "call using iPhone." I work from home at times and use this feature for conference calls. I would like to do it more often. 🙂
