How to incrementally slow down audio (or video)

I'm looking for a tool where I can smoothly slow down an audio clip from regular speed to a much slower speed, over the course of several seconds, as if a turntable motor lost its power and slowed to a stop. I'm still using Final Cut 7 for video and I know how to change the speed (command-J) but that'll do it for the entire clip, not incrementally slow it down. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

I think this is a little closer to what I'm talking about, the "turntable losing power" effect.

Thanks, but that doesn't work. Two things: I found this on larryjordan.com:

A variable speed clip only affects the video of a clip, whether linked to audio or not

Also, this appears to do two things, neither of which I'm looking for:

1. It speeds up action outside the two key points.

2. It slows down the action between the two points, but at a constant speed. As noted, I'm trying to have the audio start at normal speed and then gradually get slower and slower.

I'm wondering if there's some other tool better suited to this, like Soundtrack Pro? Off-topic for this forum, I know.

Thanks, Scott
