I have a MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 model.
Ive just noticed my optical out audio doesn't anymore. When I plug in a optical lead the system detects this and says 'Digital Out' in the Audio MIDI Setup app. But there is no red light or sound.
I've tried a PRAM and SMC, but still no luck 😟
I had this on my Mac Mini Years back, turned out to be a dead interface, but was in my 1yr Apple warranty. My MacBook Pro is well out of warranty 😟
Anyone had this problem before?

If you plug an optical/Toslink cable (with the proper 3.5mm adapter on it, as needed) into the port and cannot see a red light out of the other end of the cable, then the jack is dead and would need hardware repair, as did your mini.

I’ll just put my money on a Audiolab Q-Dac or M-Dac. Might be a lot cheaper and sound better :)
