What is AnySearch 1.2.3.

I'm running Sierra 10.12.6. on my iMac. A new extension has shown up in Safari, called AnySearch 1.2.3. Coincidentally I have been getting new notifications of products for my iMac, on the desktop, in a way I never have before. Is this some kind of malware? I am going to delete this extension. I will appreciate any information about this, and advice about what to do.

Safari Extensions do not install themselves on their own. You installed it, although you were likely deceived into doing so. To learn how not to make that mistake in the future, read How to install adware.

I know you are right; extensions don't install themselves. I thought I was smart enough to recognize this kind of thing. Apparently not. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the concise advice. I've done what you suggested, and now we will see if I was successful.

It took some judgement about which LaunchAgents plist items to remove, as some seemed to be for legitimate activities on my computer (Dropbox, etc.). So I just removed the ones I couldn't recognize or link with anything I do. Hope I was right, and I didn't cause other problems.
