AirPods-Garbled sound during phone calls

My AirPods are great for listening to music, but I continually have problems with the sound quality during phone calls, especially longer ones. It's hard to explain what happens, but in short, the sound will suddenly shift to each ear being out of phase with the other. This creates a garbled effect. It's intermittent, but isn't related to environment, as it can happen while I am sitting in the same spot on my couch. Sometimes, taking one pod out of my ear and holding it helps to reset back to the default sound but not always.

I've been through several cycles of disconnecting my AirPods, resetting my phone, and then repairing the AirPods, so please don't simply suggest that as a solution.

Thanks,

Jon

Hi, jpur,

Thanks for reaching out via the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I see that your AirPod audio is not in sync while on calls. I'd be happy to help.

It looks like you've done a good bit of troubleshooting already. Since the issue is still present, I would recommend taking the AirPods into an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for inspection. A genius or Apple-certified technician will let you know what the next steps are after taking a look at the issue. You can use the following link to locate the nearest store, get contact information, and set reservations: Apple - Find Locations .

You can also reach out to Apple Support directly for additional information and to review your options: Contact Apple Support .

Cheers!

I have this issue too. Phone is less then 5 feet away. Audio will be perfect then it gets garbled I can still hear however it sounds digitized. I have iPhone 6+ with iOS 11.0.1 I've noticed this issue on iOS 11 beta and iOS 10.3.3. I have tested the audio on various other devices including a mac mini and a 2015 MBP 13" I've noticed a slight garble during audio playing music and but it's more pronounced during long phone conversations. It can not be my network or my internet as those are both isolated so it appears to be a bluetooth issue on my phone. Today I contacted apple had them gather log files of the issue from my device to pinpoint if there is a problem with my phone. If there is an issue it's most likely a problem with the bluetooth however that may result in a replacement phone which I would rather wait until the iPhone X get's released. My goal is to also see if there is no Bluetooth issue on my device if the backup from iCloud could be affecting my audio too. If that is the case a restore as a new device will resolve the issue. I am waiting to hear back from Engineer's (SSE) to go over the data i've forward and advise me of the data
