6th gen short battery life

I got a new (refurbished) iPod Touch 6th gen. Without doing anything different than on my old 5th gen, the battery life is horrible. I typically have to charge it 1-2 times a day, in addition to regular overnight charging.

I've made 3 trips to the nearest Apple Store ($60 in gas) and sent it into Apple by mail. They were supposed to fix it or replace it, but they sent it back saying they "couldn't duplicate the issue."

This can't be normal. Are you really supposed to need to charge the new ones an extra 1-2 times a day with normal use? If not, how can I get this resolved before the warranty is up?

Things you can do to help preserve battery life on iOS iDevices.

Lower the screen brightness, but adjust to a comfortable viewing brightness.

Turn OFF Bluetooth when not using Bluetooth for prolonged periods of time.

Turn OFF Background App Refresh.

Turn ON Reduce Motion

Set screen lock for the minimum time interval.

Set iOS Mail to fetch mail less often ot set to manual fetch only when launching iOS Mail.

Try setting up and activating Night Shift mode

I also have the iPod touch sixth generation model and it was brand new and I've owned it for about, I believe a year (or maybe two?) Now and while it's brand new, I find I have to charge it twice a day! So what I do now when I'm not using it is I keep it connected to the charger so that when I do use it it's fully charged (although that doesn't solve the problem by having to charge it in the middle of using it!).

I think it's just normal for the 6th generation model to exhibit bad battery life! I've never owned a 5th generation so don't have anything to compare it to other than my previous iPhone 5 and current iPhone SE but the batteries in those devices are probably much larger capacity than the iPod touch.

The only thing I can recommend is buying an external battery case which will probably prolong the battery life in general while using it, as shown here-

Hope this helps and good luck!

The reset didn't work. After charging twice today I implemented most of those battery-saving techniques. I then took screenshots of a battery app tracking the loss of 27% battery power in 29 minutes while I was barely doing anything on it. At first it said there were 10 hours and 29 minutes left; less than half an hour later it said 6 hours and 12 minutes. This is insane. It is obviously not working. I have also kept a log of the number of times I have charged it each day in addition to at night (1-3 times). Is there anything else I can do when I spend $20 more to get to the Apple Store to get them to do anything about it? Is this enough proof?

The Apple store replaced it, and the new one is even worse! It lost 35% power in 30 minutes when I was editing a to-do list. I’m losing my interest in buying any more Apple products in the future. I called Apple and they had me clear the cache and turn off app notifications; it didn’t seem to help. I now, at their suggestion, am going to try a restore, something I did twice on the first one. I’m first waiting on solving a problem with my computer, though :P
