Macbook pro 2016 repeatedly crashes whilst using blender cycles render

My Macbook pro 15" 2016 with touch bar (16gb ram, Radeon Pro 460 4gb GPU, 2,7 GHz Intel Core i7 running OSX SIERRA 10.12.6) repeatedly crashes whilst using cycles render in blender 2.78c. It crashes with and without cycles compute device set to OpenCL (as apposed to none), and it also occurs with GPU and/or CPU rendering set in the render dialogue. When it happens the curser momentarily freezes, and then the MBP crashes to a black screen with the apple standard reboot message. I am not talking about complex rendering, pretty much straight away after filling in a few settings (e.g. adding a environment, changing a color etc.), even just with a cube mesh. It seems to happen without a specific pattern e.g. not specifically when i press render.. it happens on different occasions seemingly not related to each other. It doesn't seem to happen when i have blender render selected. Has anyone else experienced this?

I ask this on the apple forum because it actually crashes the MBP instead of just the blender software. Could this be a hardware related issue? I recently ran the apple diagnostic (reboot whilst holding D) and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016), macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Etrecheck – System Information

I also had a blender high CPU usage notification in my etrecheck.

I copied below what it mentioned. I also did some further checks, and apposed to what i mentioned in my original message, it seems to only happen when i CPU render (when i have GPU rendering enabled it doesn't crash..).

Some things only work with CPU rendering an not with (AMD) gpu rendering, so it isn't an option to only use the GPU rendering. I recently tried to lower the amount of CPU threads blender uses from 8 to 4 to see if it would prevent a crash... it did not.. so maybe the below message is linked to that change.

Anyhow, back to 8 threads now, and hopefully i can find a way to prevent my MBP from crashing when doing intensive CPU tasks.

Do you think this could in anyway be connected to my MBP crashing when rendering scenes?

I don't have bit defender actively monitoring anything, i only use it to seek out a few malwares/trojans on my computer (it is scanning now, and found a bunch)... this is due to a recent problem i had with my mac (where i was locked out and had to clean install) and hoped i could find a reason for it...

Thans for your reply. Please find below the report.

The SAIcloudconnect that pops up as adware is a helper needed for graphtec cutting plotter software.

Please let me know if you see anything out of the ordinary. Thank you.
