EtreCheck is a tool that helps Apple Support Community volunteers debug problems without any access to the troubled computers. Debugging problems can be a difficult task even when the machine is in front of you. Attempting it via a discussion forum is extremely difficult. EtreCheck is a great help that regards.
Are you always running a torrent?
not all the time
For the hardware side of things, can download and run for awhile in trial mode bjango's iStatMenus, that will let you monitor if the fans are spinning at all.
If not (a possibility on an old computer in dusty environs), you can:
For the last two options, might want to visit IFixIt.com for parts and procedures.
Edit: on a 13" there is only one fan. All the more important that it function properly.
I've tried a different couple of status monitors, fan controllers.
- smcFan controller does the best job so far.
- I have taken it apart and taken the fan out to clean it.. still didn't help
P.S. I just bought a new fan for it like a month ago
like right now, its telling me that its running at 140 degrees F.. and I just turned it on..
It would be nice to see the EtreCheck output.
Also I would suggest running Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor -> Energy
And set Activity Monitor -> View -> All Processes
then let this run. See if you have a process that is rising to the top of the Energy Impact list.
