How to save a file on Thumb drive on MacBook Pro4

I need to transfer some files to another computer. My CD/DVD drive rejects the cd within 10 seconds. Thought I would just put them on a thumb drive instead but there is no option. Just an option to burn a cd

How are you trying to place them on a thumb drive? Are you using an App?

You should be able to simply drag the files from their folder in Finder to the USB drive icon also in finder.

Much like you would on a Windows PC.

Can you see the thumb drive icon on the desktop? Usually looks like this:

User uploaded file

By default, Mac OSX hides external drives and devices. You can make them visible on the desktop by making sure you are in the Finder (command-tab until "Finder" appears in the upper left of your menubar) and selecting Finder Preferences:

User uploaded file

and then checking all the boxes under the "General" tab:

User uploaded file

If you plan to keep using the computer, you can try a drive cleaning disk on the optical drive. Surprisingly often, the drive is only dirty, not dead and a cleaning restores it to full function.
