Lag while switching between desktops

Hi,

I have a 2017 Retina MacBook Pro with dedicated graphics.

I've noticed when I'm playing a game, or using another app that is taking a lot of VRAM, when I switch back to a desktop that is playing a YouTube Video or doing something in Safari, preview, etc that their is a large amount of lag on this desktop window for at least 10 seconds before the computer recovers.

This never happened on my previous MacBook Pro with dedicated graphics. Has anyone else been experiencing this? It is quite disappointing after spending all that cash to upgrade.

Does the issue still occur when you are plugged in and charging?

Have you tried disabling automatic graphics switching?: Set graphics performance on MacBook Pro - Apple Support

I personally would not recommend leaving that disabled, because it does save battery power.

Plugged in yes, but the computer is fully charged (I use mostly as a desktop). I don't know why it'd be doing graphics switching like that so rapidly. I don't know if its a software optimization thing or what.

Oops! didn't mean to post that twice. 🙂

You might as well re-enable switching, as it saves battery. There's a typo in an above post which says the opposite, which is incorrect.

Not my finest work, is it?

You said your older computer didn't have this issue; what computer would that be?

Late 2013 rMBP with discrete graphics (NVIDIA 650? or something like that). This computer is really the same as the old one, just with faster components and a touchbar...
