Why won't Audible app play?

When I try playing audiobooks on Audible, the app gets stuck and nothing happens. I click play and it's just non-responsive. This is a new problem that started after I tried using Apple CarPlay on my new car. CarPlay itself doesn't work reliably and it seems to have corrupted and screwed up my Audible App now. :(

I tried all the troubleshooting suggestions -- and btw, when you do see the issue, often you are on the road, and restarting your phone, etc, isn't a very easy to perform action, let alone probably not legal -- need to pull over to resolve it using any of the suggestions.

Nothing worked -- my audible app comes up with nothing available in the library, and immediately goes back to the regular CarPlay home screen. When not connected to CarPlay using the apple cable, my Audible app works perfectly. I am having to resort to not using the apple cable at all, and using a regular BlueTooth connection to listen to my books.


This broken behavior is very consistently happening for me.


Please let me know how I can work around this issue. I just bought my car (2017 Honda Accord), and was hoping for a better, not worse experience.
