How to turn off Drafts in Mail

I'm using the Mail app on my Mac Book Pro, operating with Sierra. I can't stand the auto-save of drafts in Mail. On any given day I'll have a hundred or so drafts.

How do I turn off auto-save of drafts in Mail? No need to give advice on where to store drafts. I want to turn off the function entirely.

Thoughts? Thx

When mail is composed ( command + N ) in mail application and you fill up the credentials and click on don't save is the only option , previously in ELCapitan there was box in mail box behaviours store draft message on the server , that could be unchecked to not save mails in drafts .

See the pic , using in Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6 if you close the mail compose window and click on don't save the drafts will never get saved .Turning off button permanently is not there .

There is no setting to turn off the auto draft save feature.

Some email providers such as Gmail have problems when Mail is set to store drafts on the server. It causes to save multiple copies of a draft instead of 1 draft being updated. If this is your problem, change the settings for the draft mailbox in Mailbox behaviors tab in Mail preferences to On My Mac. That will stop the multiple drafts being saved.
