I'd wait a bit before bringing it in... maybe 2-4 weeks.
I don't know why you recommend such a thing. The reason is that by waiting all you're going to achieve is to be further back in the queue by 2-4 weeks. All it takes is to ask how long the repair will take and if they have the parts on hand. If they don't, AppleCare/authorised service centre are normally happy for your to keep your system until they do. At which point they'll call you to bring/send it in.
When the PowerBook G4 had problems with white spots and uneven illumination the backorder was 2-3 month. I just took mine into to a local service centre, have then sight it so they could order the new dispay, and I got called 2 months later. At the end of it I was without my PowerBook for 6 hours.
