Not getting iMessage notifications on iPhone when on my MacBook

Hello!

Sometimes (not always!) whenever I am on my MacBook, my iMessage notifications pop up there (which is fine) but not on my iPhone (which is not fine). It isn't consistent -- it can alternate which device displays the notification, and sometimes it pops up on both, which is what I wish it always did. Sometimes I miss iMessage notifications because my phone doesn't vibrate or light up. Is there any way I can make sure I ALWAYS get the notification on my iPhone, without disabling the Messages app on my Mac? It's really inconsistent where the notifications get displayed and I can't find any settings addressing it.

My MacBook: Air 13", 2017 model (Mac OS X Sierra version 10.12.6)

My iPhone: iPhone 6 (iOS version 10.3.3)

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section -- I'm not sure if it's MacBook, iPhone, or something else.

Thank you!

Hey, itselixx14.

I see that you're using Continuity to receive your iMessages and SMS text messages on both your iPhone and your MacBook Air. Sometimes, the iPhone doesn't provide a notification that one has been received, though. I'm happy to help.

Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch -- Make sure that you're using the same settings on both your MacBook Air and your iPhone.

Use Notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch-- If the issue persists, follow the steps below if/when it happens again.

If you don't see notifications for a specific app

To get notifications, connect to a Wi-Fi or cellular network. If you don't get notifications for a specific app, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that the app supports notifications. Go to Settings > Notifications, select the app, and make sure that Notifications are turned on.
  2. If you have notifications turned on for an app but you're not receiving alerts, the alert style might be set to None. Go to Settings > Notifications and check that your Alert Style is set to Banners or Alerts.
  3. Make sure that you’re signed in to your Apple ID. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores and enter your Apple ID and password.
  4. Make sure that Do Not Disturb is turned off. Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb and tap Manual if it's turned on.
  5. If you’ve recently installed an app or restored from a backup, open the app to start getting notifications.

Let me know how that goes and take care!
