Old Watch Series 1 won't pair?

I haven't used my watch in a very long time and never updated. When I got it I had an iPhone 6 and now I have the 7 and was trying to start using it again. I've reset to factory and when I try to pair it says I have to update then says there are no updates. My phone is fully updated. No one else has ever used the watch. Any help would be appreciated!

Your iPhone is not "fully updated", as described in your question.

First update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS - which is currently iOS 10.3.3 - starting by making a backup:

Then pair your Apple Watch by following the remaining steps here:

Hi

If your iPhone is running iOS 11 beta software, then your Apple Watch cannot be paired with it until watchOS 4 is released.

There is no public beta program for watchOS 4.

Your options are to downgrade your iPhone or wait until watchOS 4 is released commercially.
