Spectrum mail is slow in loading to my inbox

When I "get mail", I'm told there are no new messages; then, later a huge batch of message downloads, some from days ago. I think there is a way to go into mail settings and fix it (which I did w/Apple support a few months ago), but I don't know how to do it.

iMac, iOS 10.1.1, iOS10.12.6
