Ipad stuck in Apple logo and progress bar screen during recovery

My iPad (I think a 3) 64GB had a problem that left it stuck on the Apple logo. So I started restoring, and now the iPad is stuck on the screen with the Apple logo and the empty progress bar. Can somebody tell me how to fix this problem? The iPad can only be updated to iOS 9. [Note: I put the iPad as an iPad 1 because there is no iPad 3 choice]

I did this...I set iTunes to restore the iPad to a fresh iOS 9.3.5. It downloaded the software, extracted it, then 'Prepared the iPad for recovery'. Then, the Apple logo screen with the gray progress bar popped up, and I heard the sound that you hear when you eject a device, and the iPad was the only thing plugged in. It has gotten nowhere with the progress bar; still blank.

So i downloaded the wrong ipsw file, and a message popped up that read:

'The iPad "iPad" could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible.'

But when I downloaded the correct one, it said:

'The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194).'

Should I try to use a different version of iOS, a different computer, or what?
