Last FM scrobbler not working on 12.7

I know that there are several of us here who use last.fm's scrobbler and with previous releases we could just manually copy the dll file to the plugins folder and restore this functionality. With the release of iTunes 12.7 this trick no longer works and now I cannot scrobble my tracks to the database. I looked for an updated client but they haven't updated it in over two years.

If you've found a workaround please share it with us. Thanks.

There is an unofficial scrobbler that works around the COM events being missing in 12.7 that you can use until the official one either works around it or Apple adds back the COM events. Releases · coczero/Last.fm-Scrubbler-WPF · GitHub

The changes that apple made to the com also affect other clients like mini lyrics which has also stopped working. Right after I posted here I was in the last.fm forum where one of the client developers left that manual scrobbler which I got just as soon as he made it available. I might just roll back my desktop iTunes client, however, on my tablet I installed the old 12.6.2 client so I can use the regular last.fm scrobbler.

I sent apple feedback over the changes and asked them to incorporate the scrobbler function into iTunes like Spotify did with their client. That way it would always work no matter what version iTunes was at. I also sent mini lyrics an email over how the changes have affected their client just as they have to all apps that used the com function.

This is a known problem on Last.FM and somewhere (I used to have a link but you can find it via a search engine) they responded and indicated that they're working on a fix. That was a few weeks ago and still no response. Considering that this is what their basic function is, I would suspect that they're actively looking into it and hopefully have a solution soon.

Also, I have a feeling you won't get Spotify in iTunes any time soon. But if we did, do you want it? They probably will make it so it only scrobbles as items play to completion (like how their players all do) and not just 50%.

See this staff announcement from yesterday evening on the Get Satisfaction support forum:

iTunes 12.7 Windows & the Last.fm scrobbler plugin | Last.fm Support Community

"Hi everyone, thanks for your patience.

We now have new desktop app for scrobbling iTunes 12.7+ on Windows versions 7 and up. You can download this here.

This is a lightweight scrobbler that lives in your system tray and scrobbles music played in iTunes and (optionally) Windows Media Player. It's designed to work as a standalone scrobbler, but you can keep the old scrobbler installed on your computer if you want. By default it starts when Windows starts, but you can change this behaviour by removing the shortcut from the Windows startup folder.

Please give it a try, and let us know if you encounter any issues here.

Thanks,

Last.fm."

The new iTunes version 12.7.1 works with the old Last.fm scrobbler version 2.1.37 again which supports iPod scrobbling. The new scrobbler does not, so if iPod scrobbling is most important to you, you should download the old scrobbler again and use it with iTunes 12.7.1. See the Track My Music page on Last.fm for download links to both scrobbler versions:
