IS Apple Watch Series 3 cellular unlocked?

If I buy an Apple Watch Series 3 WiFi + Cellular in USA, with AT&T as carrier, and later on, maybe in six months from now I will move to Europe, can I still use my watch if I set up a new contract with the local French carrier (Orange)?


It is not clear if the limitation is concerning only the roaming feature or it extends also to the country: I saw different models for different countries, even if the GSM network bands are the same. So, will a US watch work with a French carrier?

There are three different regional versions of Apple Watch.


The hardware in each supports different LTE and UMTS bands, as detailed here:


Apple Watch - Carriers - Apple


You would need to buy an Apple Watch that supports the relevant LTE and UMTS bands for your country and supported carrier.


I suggest that you contact Orange for further assistance with your question.

Thank you, Jonathan.

With your hint I checked out what are the LTE frequencies used in Europe and none of them is supported by the Apple Watch USA. I'm very disappointed: it seems like this feature is useless for people travelling.


Anyway, I noticed that the GPS+Cellular model has bigger memory 16GB instead of 4GB) and the 18hr battery estimate includes LTE calls (while the same 18hr of the GPS only doesn't): I'm guessing if it is worth to go for a Cellular one and not use the LTE service, so I can have better battery life and more storage for songs.
