Lightning port speed

Has there been an improvement in the technology behind the lightning port? The Data Rate going out and into the Port on the iPhone (From iPhone 5 to iPhone 7) Is there any speed/Transfer Rate change?

Please note: I'm not asking about the Lightning Cable Speed! That has remained 480Mpbs

Apple has never published any specs on the inherent data transfer rates of the lightening port connector.

Since the first iPad Pro, new lightening port devices have supported USB 3 data transfer rates, although the lightening to USB cables Apple sells are USB 2 cables.

To my knowledge, that’s pretty much all the information that is available about lightening. Since it is Apple’s proprietary technology, they just don’t publish a whole lot of details about it.

Yes, the cable can be the limiting factor. but so will the slowest port in the connection regardless of cable (plug any iOS device into a USB 1 port with any cable and you’re never going to get speeds faster than USB 1).

There are 3rd party Apple certified lightening to usb 3 cables that will give USB 3 data transfer rates with an iPad Pro or other newer iOS device, connected to a USB 3 port.
