how to upgrade from darwin os to a later version os

Good Day


I have bought a second hand Mac Pro 2012.........The mac still has darwin OS on and i have tried everything to upgrade the software but nothing is helping what so ever. This includes looking for the the setting that i can download from "anywhere" setting which is not available, I have also downloaded a later version OS from my windows pc but when i want to install it says " javascrpt error ". i Have also tried to reset the mac to its factory setting, but no luck there either. i need help please on what to do and how to do it please.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8), Kernel is Darwin 9.8.0

Darwin 9.8.0 is the version that supports MacOS 10.5.8. That is very old, and does not support Recovery mode.


To re-Install, you would need to use your release DVD discs.


Do you know what model Mac you have, or the processor speed, or anything about it? sometimes there is a sticker on desktop units, or the approximate year and screen size can help. You may be able to make a move to a later version that is more useful.

According to the EveryMac.com website the Mac Pro 2012 originally shipped with OS X 10.7.4, even the Mac Pro 2010 which is effectively identical to the 2012 came with 10.6.4 so I suspect the claimed model number is incorrect.


Note for the original poster - the Mac Pro 2012 and 2010 are both officially described as being MacPro5,1 - remember they are effectively identical.
