How to completely remove Spotify

Hi all,

I am a teacher who has a mac lab. My students have somehow bypassed my admin required approval for installing software, hardware and such. Almost all my lab computers have spotify on them and it is wreaking havoc on our wifi at school not to mention my lab! My TEC has blocked spotify but the actual application still lives on all the macs. I have not tested yet weather or not it still works as I want to uninstall it first. I have gone through all the "how to" uninstall steps I can find but am having no luck. Here is what I am finding:

1- Spotify is not in the applications folder

2- Spotify is also not in the library folder

3- I quit from the dock yet the app seems to still exist

4- I see it in launch pad but cannot find it anywhere else

A bonus would be a way to further block students from downloading Spotify at all. I am a bit irritated that the program has found a way around the admin approval. For a school environment this is a bit maddening.

See if you can find the file(s) using one of these programs. If you go Finder/View/Show Path Bar, it will show you where it is located.

Thank you for responding. Unfortunately this does not solve the issue. Student do not have Admin privileges, Spotify has cleverly worked around this with a portable version of their App. You do not need admin privileges to download this program.

Also if you read my question you will see I tried the steps you suggest and they do not apply to the portable version or perhaps it is my OS X (Sierra).

Presumably, that should work.

Don't permit your students Admin privileges. Demote them to Standard users. Keep your Admin password to yourself and change it once in a while. Never write it down — not anywhere. Students have been known to talk to one another, and secrets get out.
