Can’t reinstall macOS...help!

Okay, so I erased my hard drive and am now attempting to reinstall macOS. I get all the way through the part where it says it is installing (takes about 6 minutes) and at 21 seconds remaining, it says the application failed.

This has happened about three or four times in a row now.

In First Aid in Disk Utilities, it says something is corrupted in “Recovery,” but it won’t allow me to repair it. It says error or something.

Any ideas how to proceed? I now have a $3000+ paperweight on my hands.

Fair enough. It is a 2017 MacBook Pro. It was running High Sierra Beta. I am trying to just get regular Sierra back on it.

When I try to reinstall macOS it starts to download macOS Sierra and runs for about six minutes. Everything looks good, but then the error message saying it couldn’t complete it pops up. It suggests I start the application over.

I tried running FIRST AID on AppleAPFSMedia and the error message says: First AId found corruption that needs to be repaired. To repair the startup volume, run First Aid from Recovery (which is grayed out for me). Click Done to Continue.

Clean Install of Sierra or El Capitan on a Clean Disk

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the Command-Option-Rkeys until a globe appears.
  2. The Utility Menu will appear in from 5-20 minutes. Be patient.
  3. Select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button.
  4. When Disk Utility loads select the drive (usually, the out-dented entry) from the side list.
  5. Click on the Erase tab in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.
  6. Set the partition scheme to GUID.
  7. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  8. Click on the Apply button, then click on the Done button when it activates.
  9. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
  10. Select Install OS X and click on the Continue button.

This should install the version of OS X that was pre-installed when the computer was new.

This is the only way you can convert the drive to HFS+ and install Sierra. Remember the above erases the drive completely.

How are we to provide ideas when you haven't told us what errors you've received? You haven't told us what computer model you have or what version of OS X it uses. Please read Writing an effective Apple Support Communities question then post a complete statement about your problem. Then we may be able to help you.
