I have tried everything I can find on the web concerning the glitch in the OS version. Nothing works.

I know this is an old version but can someone tell me how to fix. I can not upgrade to Serbia or newer on this older iMac.

Please help. I have been working on this for days.

Thanks

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

I was able to set up my emails after doing the step your showed. I then created my wife a user account on the iMac with a clean install just like mine. Same computer. I can get the pop or map to work but the smtp will not send at all..... I have tried every thing on the internet. I did notice when changing the smtp server setting with or without SSL, allow password over the internet, what ever you set them at if you change the port setting El Capitan will change it to some else. you have to change it 3 time for it to stick when you uncheck the auto setting to kept the right settings..

Can not get smtp to authorize my wife smtp. but it will pop or map. Crazy
