So I've installed a 1.8" 256gb SSD for my iPod but unfortunately I keep getting the red circle with a X on it, I've tried putting the original hd back in but I get the same thing, Wen I go into dfu mode iTunes says it needs restoring and downloads the program but that's about it. It doesn't go into disk mode please help!

Have you checked with the source that you obtained the zif card from as they should be able to tell you which iPod Classic can accept which replacement storage?

There are several complications when it comes to replacing the hard drive on a Classic. For example (if memory serves me correctly), the original 6th generation Classic and the 6th generation 1st revision will not recognise replacement storage above 128GB, even if you install a 256Gb drive. I believe the next Classic after that (the 6th generation 2nd revision) will recognise larger capacity drives.

Your supplier should know about these issues.
